Sara's Tummy Woes

by Holly Georgia

Sara is a 2-1/2 yr old rat terrier that we rescued when she was a little over a year old. She was malnourished and had the worst case of whip worms our vet had ever seen.

It took several months, along with a trip to my naturopath who prescribed Diaverm for her and she was finally free of the worms!

She recently started to turn her nose up at her food in the mornings, but acts like she is starving. Then diarrhea started. She also vomited a couple of times. We have her on a high grade, grain free kibble and canned food. After ruling out virus, etc., the vet put her on Fortiflora and it stopped the diarrhea and she started eating well again.

She is 25 days into the Fortiflora treatment and she is starting to turn up her nose at the morning meal again. She still acts like she is starving all of the time, though. The diarrhea has not started again yet.

I have read that Purina coats the Fortiflora with chemicals for the yummy effect, but I want a probiotic that is non-chemical and that can help her with her digestion. I'm thinking she probably needs enzymes as well.

She also has had some reoccurring allergies, shedding and ear issues.

Thanks in advance for a suggestion of a safe, highly recommended and effective probiotic/enzyme for Sara. She is a trim 15 lbs!

Holly

Probiotics and enzymes
by: Barbara

Hi Holly,

Sorry to hear about your dog not feeling well. Good to hear she's worm free now.

I've found this comparison table for dog probiotics. The winning company also sells enzymes and you can get a mini pack containing both enzymes and probiotics to try and see how your dog responds.

Hope it works out for you and your dog.

Take care and all the best,
Barbara
